Sell offline

On a device enabled for selling offline, the cashier keeps selling for cash to a walk-in when the connection drops, and the device sends the sales to Sahab when it is back.

Who this is for: Cashier Manager Owner
Last reviewed:

When the connection drops on a device enabled for selling offline, selling goes on: you sell for cash to a Walk-in, and the device saves each sale on itself. When the connection is back, the device sends the sales to Sahab, which the screen calls syncing.

Before you start

  • A manager enables the device once while it is online, as in Set up selling offline.
  • Open the shift while you are online; opening and closing a shift need a connection.

Sell when the connection drops

When the connection drops, Selling offline shows at the top of the till, with what waits for the connection to come back.

  1. Add items to the cart as usual, then press Continue to payment.
  2. Choose Cash and enter the Amount tendered by the customer.
  3. Press Complete sale. Sale saved on this device shows, with the offline reference and the Change due.
  4. Hand back the change and serve the next customer; the cart is empty.

The device does not print a receipt for an offline sale. After syncing, the sale gets a normal receipt number and shows in Today’s sales, where you can print it.

If Sale not saved on this device shows, the browser refused to store it. The cart stays in front of you: free some space on the device or wait for the connection, then try again.

If you reload the page offline, the till opens from the device itself, showing Opening the till from this device… while it loads.

What waits for the connection

Offline, the whole amount is paid now in cash in the company currency. So these wait for the connection:

  • Card and the other electronic tenders, Split payment and on account.
  • Vouchers and customer credit, and choosing a customer.
  • New order, continuing an order from Open orders, and deliver later.
  • Batch and serial items.
  • Anything that needs an approval, such as a discount above the limit.

If Complete sale is unavailable, Sahab writes the reason above it, such as Card is not available offline — take cash or wait for the connection.

The device also stops selling offline once the time the company set runs out, showing The offline selling time is over — connect to the internet to refresh the till. It stops as well once its unsynced sales reach the limit the company set.

Note: While offline, the device does not know what other registers sold, so it may sell an item that has run out. Sahab records the sale when it arrives and lists it for a manager to review.

Syncing

  • A bar at the top of the screen shows how many sales are waiting to sync and their amount.
  • The device sends them by itself when the connection is back, and tries again if sending fails. To send them right away, press Sync now.
  • Each sale is recorded once, even if it is sent twice, at the prices and tax the device had when it was rung.
  • If Sign in again to sync shows, your session ended. Press Sign in again; the sales stay on the device and are recorded under the cashier who rang them.
  • If a sale needs a look after it arrives, a notice shows with an Offline sales to review link for a manager.
  • If Offline sales are not syncing shows, Sahab keeps refusing or failing the oldest sale on the device. The sales stay on the device and it keeps trying by itself. Tell your manager or support, and don't clear the browser's data.

After syncing, the sale's page shows Recorded offline with the reference, Rung at and Synced at.

If Selling offline was turned off for this device shows, the sales already saved on it still sync as usual, but new sales need a connection.

Close the shift and sign out

Sync the sales before Close shift. Unless the company allows otherwise, Sahab refuses the close with Sync the sales made offline on this till before closing the shift. And you cannot sign out while the device holds unsynced sales; you see Sync the offline sales on this till before signing out.

Tip: Never clear browser data on a till device. Unsynced sales are stored there and nowhere else.
